Treatment
During WWI they knew very little about PTSD. If an officer usually in the trenches since that's where most the traumatic events occurred noticed a soldier had shell shock he was supposed to send that soldier to a nurse or doctor to be examined. But most the officers thought they were just being cowardly so they were either deserted or shot in front of the other troops as an example to show the other troops to not act cowardly.
One way to treat PTSD is called talk therapy. This is when you talk to a group of people that have had an experience similar to yours. This helps you get someone to lean on and we all need that.
Another form of treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT are usually face to face meetings between you and a specialist. (Much like talk therapy) This involves your emotions, your thoughts, and your behavior. When you talk to a specialist they try to change your thoughts in order to change your behavior and your emotions.
